PanoMapTM Database-Driven Laser Scanning Technology

Technology

CSA’s Laser Scanning Technology (PanoMap/LSSM) is in use in over 60 nuclear reactors in the USA and abroad.  To support these applications, CSA is using PanoMap/LSSM Laser Scanning Technology as well as Plant/CMS, a powerful 3D CAD intelligent plant database.  These two technologies provide powerful integrated support for nuclear plant lifecycle applications.

CSA’s approach to laser scanning is based on high quality visualization, 3D representation from laser scans and the intelligent Plant/CMS 3D database.

Applications include:

   Measurement and
     Dimensioning

   Design Verification

   Equipment Removal
     Simulation

   As-Built Plant
     Representation

   Scaffolding Support

   Permanent Shielding
     Design

   Job Briefings

Dose Reduction Initiative

The main benefit of the laser scanning technology is support of the dose reduction initiative. The main objective is to reduce the amount of time personnel need to enter a nuclear facility.

CSA is providing a number of applications which provide tools and make available a very accurate plant configuration in a digital photo-realistic 3D format.

CSA Support

CSA provides comprehensive support for these projects.  The support includes field scanning, creation of the laser scanning database, 3D modeling, software installation, training, and specific applications for individual projects.

So far over 14,000 laser scans have been collected for the plants in the USA.

3D plant database”

The basic steps include:

Laser scan the expected removal path.

Model in 3D the rigging equipment and supporting structures.

Create the removal path and simulation sequence.

Remove the old equipment from the scan database.

Merge the equipment removal sequence within the scans.

Check for interferences.

Create the removal sequence movie.
